Domain 3: Instruction
Domain 3: Instruction
The three artifacts that reflect domain 3 are important because they show that I place importance on two major factors in my classroom. The two important factors in my class are feedback and creating student-centered learning activities. Feedback is important between me and the students as well as feedback between students. Creating lessons that allow for student-centered instruction are critical to helping students further their learning and learn how to master the learning objectives on their own. The three artifacts I have chosen for 3b Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques: Conversation Map and headlines lesson plan. This combined multiple activities as well as focused on students having a conversation using sentences prompts from the book Academic Conversations. The next artifact for 3c Engaging Students in Learning: Chalk Talk lesson plan I used in a 7th/8th grade Social Studies classroom. Chalk Talk is a great strategy to help students get engaged in a topic. The students loved this activity and told me that they gained a lot of insight by doing this activity. The last artifact for 3d Using Assessment in Instruction: Thesis Statement lesson plan. This got students providing feedback to each other to help strengthen their writing skills. I used this lesson as a formative to help students prepare for the summative assessment for the unit where they would have to write their own thesis statements. Through these through artifacts they demonstrate how I approach teaching to create student-centered learning that allows students multiple opportunities to receive and give feedback.
